The two ingredients, milk protein hydrolysate (Lactium®) and L-theanine, both have a calming effect. It can also be taken an hour before bed to support sleep. What is Lactium®?
Lactium®, a milk protein hydrolysate from casein, supports relaxation and a normal stress response. It works by increasing the activity of GABA (gamma-Aminobutyric acid), a neurotransmitter well known for its inhibitory action on anxiety and its relaxing properties. It is safe for lactose-intolerant individuals but should be avoided by those with a true dairy allergy. Lactium® is hypoallergenic, has no side-effects and is not addictive.
What is L-theanine?
L-theanine is an amino acid primarily found in tea and is associated with relaxation. L-theanine also supports the production of GABA, a calming brain neurotransmitter. In clinical studies, L-theanine has been shown to increase alpha wave activity. Alpha waves are generated during a relaxed, attentive mental state. L-theanine is also fast-acting and has been shown to have an effect within 40 minutes. L-theanine can be taken during the day or at bedtime as it not a sedative and will not make you feel drowsy.
