Weight Loss

Did you know that over 60% of adults and 30% of children between 2 and 15 in the UK are overweight? The cost to the NHS is staggering, estimated at somewhere around £5 billion per year and rising.

So why as a nation are we getting fatter when the health risks are so well publicised? The link between obesity and the development of chronic illness – eg., cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, stroke and even cancer –  is hard to ignore, so why do so many of us still struggle to reach a healthy size?

That’s because weight loss isn’t just a simple case of reducing number of calories in and increasing energy expended out.
Numerous physiological imbalances can interrupt important metabolic processes and interfere with normal weight metabolism. These may include:

 • Adrenal imbalance
 • Thyroid insufficiency
 • Insulin resistance
 • Metabolic syndrome
 • Inflammation

By understanding the antecedents, triggers and drivers that can interfere with weight loss, we can hopefully uncover the key to achieving success, whatever the weight goal.
