Nutrition in Babies & Young Children
Number 95. For Professional Use Only
The rate of growth in the first few years of a child’s life is phenomenal. In the first two years alone, a child will have doubled in height and probably trebled in weight. Mental, emotional and physical developments also take place at a similarly fast rate. It will come as no great surprise then that such a vast amount of growth means a high turnover of nutrients, which are, quite literally, the essential building blocks of life. Sub-optimal nutrition in the early years can have serious, negative consequences for long term and future health. Good nourishment is vital for both the body and the brain - for giving a child the very best possible start in life.
