The role of vitamin D in bone protection is well established yet vitamin D remains one of the most widely studied vitamins with new research being published every day. This is because we are learning more about the inter-relationship of vitamin D with other nutrients and more about the exact mechanisms of action in the body. Specifically, with regard to bone health, there is new research looking at favourable actions of vitamin D alongside various bone medications e.g. alendronate1 but the synergistic effects of vitamin D alongside other vitamins have come to light too. Synergistic effects have been noted particularly for vitamin D and vitamin K with regard to bone health.2,3
