Lemon Balm Leaf ( Melissa Officinalis )
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a lemon-scented herb, native to southern Europe, and is part of the mint family. It can be taken as a tea, a supplement, or used topically as an essential oil, or in a lotion.
Lemon balm contains rosmarinic acid, a compound which is thought to have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Lemon balm has also been used for centuries in traditional medicine, to reduce the symptoms of anxiety including nervousness and excitability.
