From the day he first coined the term ‘Functional Medicine’, Dr. Bland has been an instrumental influence on the way we approach sickness and health. This world class, entertaining and insightful speaker shared his latest thoughts on the field of personalised and lifestyle medicine as well as the most recent advances around Functional Medicine in relation to the gut.

DR. JEFFREY BLAND
Jeffrey Bland, PhD, FACN, FACB, CNS has been an internationally recognized leader in the nutritional medicine field for over 30 years. He is founder and president of the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute, as well as founder and Chairman Emeritus of The Institute for Functional Medicine, the global leader in Functional Medicine education. Dr. Bland is an iconic figure in the natural products industry and held several key positions at Metagenics prior to his retirement from corporate life in 2012.
A nutritional biochemist and registered clinical laboratory director, Dr. Bland was formerly Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Puget Sound and Director of Nutritional Research at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine. Dr. Bland is a respected author of books for both healthcare professionals and consumer audiences. He is also the principal author of over 120 peer-reviewed research publications on nutritional biochemistry.
DR. STEVEN SANDBERG-LEWIS
Steven Sandberg-Lewis, ND, DHANP is a practitioner of Naturopathic gastroenterology. He has been in practice for 40 years and in 1996 he joined the full-time faculty of the National University of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon. Now adjunct faculty, he continues to engage in patient care 3 days per week and is a key professor in the Gastroenterology Block Course and teaches several electives including Gastroenterology Laboratory, Advanced Gastroenterology and The Liver in Health and Disease. Dr. Sandberg-Lewis supervises the Gastroenterology Mentor Shift, giving student doctors the chance to work with complex digestive disorders in an off-campus small practice setting.
Areas of special clinical and research focus include irritable bowel syndrome, SIBO, GERD, hiatal hernia, inflammatory bowel disease (including microscopic colitis), biliary dyskinesia, the sterolbiome, gastroparesis and chronic nausea/vomiting.
Steven Sandberg-Lewis is a renowned presenter at educational seminars around the U.S. and beyond. He has authored or co-authored multiple articles, webinars and is frequently interviewed on digestive health topics. He has a regular column entitled ‘Functional Gastroenterology Bolus’ in the Townsend Letter.
Amanda Hamilton has been one of the UK's most established nutritionists for over a decade with a career that has included more than eight internationally syndicated TV series and four books, the latest of which ‘The G-Plan Diet’ became a number one Amazon best-seller. Amanda writes several columns for national titles, and is a regular on BBC TV and radio.
Day to day, Amanda remains at the helm of her retreat business and licensed spa programmes, these include her signature wellness menus and programmes in Sardinia, and regular hosted events in Spain, Scotland and England. She runs a clinic from her base in London. She is also a Pilates teacher.
Her approach to food is first and foremost realistic; farm to table, lots of plants, minimal processing, sustainable produce, adding in gut-friendly foods and regular fasts for wider health benefits. However, there's room for strong espresso, artisan gin and tonic and home-made gingerbread (but not necessarily in that order).

As a nutritional and behavioural therapist, Jo became one of the first UK Functional Medicine Practitioners by graduating from the prestigious Institute for Functional Medicine in 2013. She furthered her career with a fellowship in Integrative Cancer from the American Board of Anti-Aging Practitioners.
Jo runs a busy private clinic in Coventry where she specializes in complex cases, digging deep into her client’s symptoms to both identify and treat the underlying root causes of chronic disease.
Alongside clinical work, Jo inspires students to embark on a fulfilling career by lecturing in Nutrition at the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM). She works closely with Nutri Advanced by regularly presenting webinars and hosting intensive protocols such as the Gut Transformation Programme.

The Science of Health will be hosted in County Hall, London. This characterful venue on the Southbank of the River Thames sits next to Westminster Bridge and offers stunning views over The Houses of Parliament.
Close to several tube stations including Waterloo, Westminster and Lambeth North, County Hall is an easily accessible venue with an abundance of hotel accommodation nearby.
Seating will be set up in half cabaret style to ensure each attendee has table space on which to put a laptop or notepad. Admission includes refreshments and a bespoke gut friendly buffet lunch created by The Science of Health speaker and uthor of 'The G-Plan Diet', Amanda Hamilton.
